The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) announced the launch of the “Auctions” platform, the first of its kind in the Egyptian market, which will offer a diverse portfolio of telecommunications services tailored for major corporations and institutions. The platform aims to provide innovative technological and service solutions to support large organizations across various business sectors, enhance their profitability, and develop their customer service and contact center operations, Invest-Gate reports.
This step comes as part of NTRA’s strategy to strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional and global hub for contact center services and to boost its competitiveness in exporting digital services, particularly in light of the significant development witnessed by the sector over the past decade.
The platform will begin by offering its first service through auctions for special and premium numbers for customer service centers, including three-digit short codes such as 777 and 666, as well as distinctive six-digit numbers for small and medium enterprises and the retail sector, such as 777666 and 555777. The first auction is scheduled to be launched on January 26, 2026, with companies able to access the platform, register, and participate in the monthly auctions in a simple and streamlined manner, enabling them to obtain these numbers electronically without bureaucratic procedures.
NTRA launched the platform following extensive research that revealed a gap between the needs of companies operating in Egypt for distinctive, easy-to-remember numbers that facilitate customer communication, and their desire to acquire memorable contact numbers that enhance service quality and customer interaction, thereby improving customer satisfaction.
This initiative reflects NTRA’s recognition of its vital role in supporting the private sector and major corporations by offering services aligned with their evolving needs. The platform represents an initial step toward automating many of the Authority’s services in line with the state’s digital transformation strategy, with offerings made through competitive and transparent auction mechanisms.
January 26 has been set as the date for offering the first batch of short codes, targeting key sectors in the Egyptian market, including banking, telecommunications, embassies, real estate development, automotive services, retail, healthcare, tourism and hospitality, among others.
NTRA’s role in this initiative goes beyond merely offering short contact numbers; it provides a strategic tool that opens new horizons for commercial and marketing distinction. Short codes have become an integral part of corporate identity, a key element in building brand awareness, and an effective means of facilitating customer access to services and enabling fast, simple, and efficient communication.
NTRA invites all companies and entities seeking to enhance their customer communication tools to promptly register on the platform and begin the process of participating in the auctions as of today, January 14, with the auction deposit to be paid no later than January 21, 2026. The platform represents a significant milestone in empowering the private sector with advanced digital solutions, in line with the state’s digital transformation agenda and in support of Egypt’s Vision 2030 for the telecommunications and information technology sector.
