The New Administrative Capital’s Sports City is hosting the 17th edition of the IHF Men’s Super Globe from September 27 to October 3, 2024, Invest-Gate reports.
All matches will occur at the New Capital arena, which was previously used for the 2021 Men’s Handball World Championship.
Eng. Khaled Abbas, Chairman and Managing Director of the Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD), expressed pride in hosting this prestigious event, calling it a great opportunity to showcase Egypt’s progress. He highlighted the New Capital’s world-class infrastructure, smart technologies, and extensive facilities, which now make it a prime destination for international events.
Abbas stated, “I feel immense pride that the New Administrative Capital has become the hub for major local and international events.”
The tournament features nine teams, including Egyptian clubs Zamalek and Al Ahly. Defending champions SC Magdeburg, who have won the last three editions (2021, 2022, 2023), and FC Barcelona, the most successful team in the tournament’s history, are also participating. Other teams include Saudi Arabia’s Al-Khaleej, Brazil’s Taubaté, the California Eagles, and Sydney University, with Hungary’s Veszprém receiving a wild card entry.
The tournament’s group stage draw, conducted by handball stars Ahmed El-Ahmar and Ibrahim El-Masry, placed Zamalek in Group A, while hosts Al Ahly are in Group B alongside Barcelona. The winner of each group, along with the best second-placed team, will advance to the semifinals.
