Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar said 1,632 social housing units, within 68 buildings, are 70% completed in New Akhmim, Sohag Governorate, as part of the state’s efforts to provide affordable housing to low-income citizens, Invest-Gate reports.
Concerning the service projects, two health units and a basic education school are underway, together with a commercial market, an administrative center, police and fire stations, football courts, targeting mainly residents of the social housing project, Head of New Akhmim City Development Authority Hossam Fathi said in an official statement on September 12.
Besides, several utility projects are being established across 55 acres, including water and sewage systems, as well as, roads, electricity grids, and telecommunications networks, which will serve users of both social housing projects and Sohag Industrial Zone, Fathi further stated.
In late March, the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) announced offering 93 land plots in New Akhmim, as part of its plans to put forth 2,108 plots in eight new cities, ranging from 209 to 287 square meters, through a land lottery system for varying income classes, according to a previous ministerial statement.
