Ahmed Rashad, head of New Aswan City Authority, said that investments worth roughly EGP 2 bn have been injected into the new city until June 30, 2018, Invest-Gate reports.
This came during a tour by Prime Minister and Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Development Mostafa Madbouly on February 10 to inspect the latest developments at New Aswan and its tourist stripe, including 66 fully-finished villas overlooking the Nile River, as well as, the roads, water, and drainage projects being implemented in the area, according to a recent ministerial statement.
During the tour, Madbouly reviewed the development of the new city’s social housing project, which he hailed the efforts being endorsed in its establishment, as well as, the city’s government building that he ordered its quick implementation, in line with the Egyptian president’s directives.
Meanwhile, Rashad added that the city’s service projects saw investments worth about EGP 231 mn, including three basic schools being implemented, in addition to a 158-bed general hospital, a nursery, a gymnasium, a medical center, a commercial center, mini-malls, amongst others.
As for the social housing projects, Rashad highlighted that 92 buildings, comprising 1,840 units, are being implemented in the new city’s second and third residential neighborhoods. In addition, 2,120 units have been allocated and 1,200 housing units have been handed over, according to the statement.
Besides, Rashad confirmed that New Aswan will comprise a 2,651-acre industrial area that targets hosting all of the city’s industrial activities.
As part of the tour, Madbouly also inspected the Upper Kalabsha Axis, which links the Western Desert Road with the Eastern Agricultural Road and is aimed at facilitating the movement of people and goods.
This axis is one of the most important projects that are being implemented on the Nile River; it will contribute to the development of Upper Egypt. The 25-kilometer road project, linking the East to the West, will facilitate the citizens’ movement and shipping of goods, Madbouly said, revealing that within weeks a new cornerstone will be laid on the Nile in another city in Upper Egypt.
On his part, Minister of Transport Hesham Arafat pinpointed that the new road project comprises nine subways and five tunnels, and is being implemented at a total cost of around EGP 800 mn, confirming that the project has reached an implementation rate of nearly 75% and is scheduled to be completed on September 30.
