New Borg El Arab Sees EGP 5.33 bn to Date: Minister

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar said Alexandria’s New Borg El Arab is being developed as a full-service industrial city, incorporating 10 free zones and 45,054 residential units, with investments valued at EGP 5.33 bn thus far, Invest-Gate reports.

Since its launching in 1979, New Borg El Arab saw almost EGP 1.68 bn being invested in the city’s sanitation field, besides spending around EGP 1.1 bn, EGP 793.5 mn, EGP 737.2 mn, and EGP 683 mn on electricity, housing, water, and road sectors, respectively, El Gazzar confirmed in an official statement on August 29.

Moreover, roughly EGP 222 mn were pumped in New Borg El Arab’s service sector, whereas about EGP 130.5 mn and EGP 22.7 mn were bankrolled into the communications and agriculture developments, separately, the minister further revealed.

El Gazzar explained that the entire city relies on a single desalination plant, with a total capacity of 566,000 cubic meters per day, while also uncovering that New Borg El Arab’s sewerage system is being remodeled at a total cost of EGP 1.25 bn, with merely EGP 961 mn disbursed to date.

This came during the inauguration of the triple sewage treatment plant in New Borg El Arab, with phase I spreading over 55 acres and running a total capacity of 345,000 cubic meters per day, coming up with investments worth EGP 230 mn, the minister underlined, emphasizing that Egypt’s total production of potable water has reached 33.6 mn cubic meters per day.
