New Damietta saw the completion of 3,384 residential units, or 141 apartment buildings, as part of the Sakan Misr social housing project, while 1,440 others are underway, Invest-Gate reports.

This came during Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar’s extended tour to follow up on various social housing projects underway in New Damietta, according to a ministerial statement on May 16.

He called on the increasing of greeneries, planning of parking spaces, and the coordination of high-quality services.

El Gazzar concluded the tour by paying a visit to New Damietta’s JANNA luxury housing project, which witnessed the finalization of 1,056 apartments or 44 buildings. Additionally, 2,188 residential units or 87 buildings are under construction.

During the visit, the minister reassured the commitment of all workers on-site to the COVID-19 precautionary measures to ensure their health and safety, while helping stop the spread of the virus.

Earlier, El Gazzar had revealed that a total of EGP 243 bn is required to implement Egypt’s Social Housing Program, which involves the establishment of 1 mn residences. The ongoing national project needs almost EGP 193 bn for construction works, besides another EGP 50 bn for utilities, according to a statement released in mid-May.
