Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar said 984 social housing units, within 41 buildings, are nearly completed in Egypt’s southern city of New Sohag, Invest-Gate reports.
Further, the ministry is implementing Al Orman Hospital on a total area of 6.61 acres, in cooperation with Orman Charity Association, which is scheduled for delivery in December 2020. Whilst in June 2020, a university hospital, covering 8.56 acres, is expected to be finished, El Gazzar revealed in a ministerial statement on September 1.
Head of New Sohag Development Authority Ragab Abdel Rahim stated that several potable water and sewage plants are currently under construction, in addition to upgrading the existing ones, while fulfilling the irrigation requirements of the new city.
Electricity networks are also underway to serve inhabitants of the 41 newly-introduced buildings. Besides, power grids of roads leading to Sohag International Airport, together with those serving the industrial and social housing areas, are in full swing to be finalized soon, Abdel Rahim confirmed.
As for New Sohag’s road network, the construction of multiple transport routes is in progress in some areas, alongside pavement works and the implementation of sub-irrigation and drainage networks.
In late April, El Gazzar announced that 3,744 social housing units, within 156 buildings, are finalized in New Sohag, underlining that another 7,656 apartments are being developed. Moreover, 52 service projects have been completed, including schools, nurseries, commercial markets, three courts, health units, police and fire stations, an urban health center, among others, according to a previous statement.
