The UN-Habitat Egypt has signed a contribution agreement with the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) and the Egyptian General Organization for Physical Planning (GOPP) to set a conceptual plan for the development of a waterfront city in Egypt’s Northern Coast, Invest-Gate reports.
Stretching over nearly 55,000 acres, the new Ras El Hekma Waterfront City will be adopting a new model for its implementation and planning through the application of sustainable urban planning and design methods, in addition to enforcing the effective and efficient utilization of natural resources, according to an official statement.
The new project was officially launched on August 8 following the successful partnership between UN-Habitat Egypt and GOPP to design the New Alamein City, using a new paradigm in planning and establishing new towns in Egypt.
Head of UN-Habitat Egypt Country Programme Rania Hedeya highlighted the importance of using planning principles that aid the government in the achievement of sustainable urbanization and support the right for adequate shelter for all ensuring the value of “leave no one behind” in compliance with the New Urban Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 and Egypt 2030 Vision, the statement adds.
Ras El Hekma bay falls between two primary cities from the west and by 85 kilometers is Marsa Matrouh and from the east, by 138 kilometers, in the New Alamein city.
