NUCA Directs EGP 33 bn for Urban Development in 6M

The New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) pumped investments worth EGP 33 bn into different projects nationwide in the prior six months, planning to direct an additional EGP 44 bn by the end of July 2020, Invest-Gate reports.

This came during Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar’s visit to New Minya, which have seen investments totaled at EGP 5.64 bn for various development projects thus far, according to a ministerial statement on January 9.

Around EGP 2.8 bn had been allotted for housing projects within the new city, besides pumping EGP 333.2 mn, EGP 529 mn, EGP 566.9 mn, EGP 773.2 mn, and EGP 618.8 mn into several service, potable water, sanitation, road and telecom, as well as, electricity ventures, respectively, El Gazzar noted.

He highlighted that 10,368 social housing units, within 432 buildings, were completed in New Minya, of which 5,082 were delivered to their beneficiaries, whilst 480 others are underway. According to the minister, these additions are complemented with 29 service projects, including nine commercial markets, eight nurseries, five schools, four playgrounds, together with a medical unit, a youth center, and a police station.

Coming as part of the state’s efforts to establish fully-integrated urban spaces, over 816 apartments are 86% done in New Minya’s Sakan Misr middle-income project, alongside the establishment of 528 residences in Dar Misr housing project. Moreover, 336 homes in JANNA luxury housing are executed, he further stated, stressing that NUCA eyes extending 18 service plots in the new city, with a total area of 1,300 acres and with costs estimated at EGP 2 bn.

On the sidelines, El Gazzar pointed out that the state’s role is to allocate new areas for urban development, while also incorporating the appropriate infrastructure and services to enable investors and developers to pursue this endeavor. He referred to the government’s EGP 15 bn investments in constructing two universities in New Alamein.
