Egyptian tycoon Naguib Sawiris’ Ora Developers has announced the launch of the first edition of ZED Cup, organized between August 25 and 30, taking place at its newly-introduced sports complex in ZED Park, Invest-Gate reports.
“For the first time in Egypt, Ora Developers is inviting the U13 teams of some of the biggest football clubs in the world to take part in ZED Cup and ignite the Egyptian community with this one-of-a-kind championship, organized by Z bling Effect,” read the company’s statement on July 17.
“The five-day football tournament will take place in ZED’s world-class FIFA-accredited soccer GrassMaster pitch,” the statement added, noting that the official draw ceremony will take place on August 25 at Marriott Mena House, where all coaching staff and players will be lodging.
Ora Developers confirmed that clubs set to partake in the tournament include Parma Calcio 1913, Udinese Calcio, Valencia CF, Olympique de Marseille, K.A.A. Gent, Deportivo Alavés, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Academy Egypt. Once concluded, participants will be taken on a tour to Giza Pyramids and National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
According to the statement, young Egyptian players could participate in the tournament during PSG Academy Egypt’s official tryouts, which started on July 20, in Cairo and the North Coast’s Diplomatic Village 3 and Hacienda.
Haitham Mohamed, the company’s CEO, remarked, “We are thrilled to be hosting some of the biggest and world-acclaimed football clubs, to take part in our first edition of the ZED Cup … We are delighted to be kicking off events at our world-class ZED Sports Complex, located in ZED Park, which will host many exciting events in the near future.”
Scheduled to officially open its gates next October, ZED Park is nestled at the heart of west Cairo’s ZED compound – a new integrated project that “interweaves mixed-use, residential, commercial, retail, and entertainment facilities into its masterplan, elevating Sheikh Zayed from a residential suburb to a new urban quarter that promises its community a true luxury lifestyle destination,” Ora Developers stated during the project’s opening ceremony on May 23.
