Orascom Constructions Limited, an Egypt-based construction company, acquired two contracts to develop the civil and track work of Cairo Metro Line III. The contracts are worth EGP 2.73 billion, reported Reuters.
With the addition of the two new contracts, Orascom’s total share in the third phase of the metro construction reaches EGP 3.8 billion. Funding will be provided by French and European entities.
Orascom will work in consortium with Vinci, Bouygues, and Arab Contractors to complete the civil package; for the track works package it will work in a consortium with TSO (NGE Group), and ETF, a subsidiary of Eurovia, according to an Orascom press release.
The work will entail tunneling and viaduct works spanning 18 kilometers, and will include 15 elevated, grade and underground stations, added the statement.
Cairo Metro Line III, once completed, is expected to run from Cairo Airport to Cairo University.
