Merely 10,666 residential units are ready to rehouse informal housing dwellers in Cairo, coming as part of the state’s keenness to become a slum-free country, Invest-Gate reports.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized the importance of slum upgrading, especially in Cairo, for providing unprivileged households with decent livelihoods. While mandating the swift delivery of such units, he also stressed that the state has already built abundant residences to evict unsafe informal settlements, with more in the pipeline in the near term, he said during a meeting held on December 31.
For his part, Cabinet Spokesman Nader Saad highlighted that the development, resettlement, and upgrading of 30 informal areas have been successfully undertaken, embracing approximately 15,383 residential units, according to the recent ministerial statement.
Besides, additional projects are underway in this sense, which will be finalized to hand over 15,569 properties in the near future, thereby accommodating a large number of slum residents, Nader further revealed.
This announcement came in the presence of Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar, Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel-Aal, Executive Director of the Informal Settlements Development Fund (ISDF) Khaled Siddiq, and other officials.
