Prime Minister Holds Expanded Meeting with New Urban City Authority Heads

Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly held an expanded meeting with the heads of Egypt’s new urban city authorities at the government headquarters in the New Capital, in the presence of Eng. Sherif El Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Invest-Gate reports.

At the outset, Madbouly welcomed the attendees and emphasized that the meeting stemmed from his frequent field visits, during which he observed the urgent need to intensify efforts to restore the aesthetic and civilized image of new cities. He stressed the importance of prioritizing cleanliness, maintenance, waste removal, and landscape works.

Madbouly directed the heads of new urban city authorities to conduct daily on-site inspections, moving beyond office work and reports. He underlined that the responsibility for maintaining the cities’ appearance rests primarily on their shoulders, urging them to make these efforts a top priority. He also instructed them to closely monitor contracts with cleaning and maintenance companies, noting that sufficient financial resources are available within city budgets to support these efforts.

The Prime Minister highlighted the advantages that new cities enjoy compared to governorates, including modern urban planning, lower population densities, adequate budgets, and the ability to build partnerships with private developers. He called on city heads to adopt innovative approaches to generate additional resources, such as utilizing unused land to support development efforts.

Madbouly tasked the Housing Minister with ensuring that each city head develops a clear action plan to revitalize their city. He emphasized accountability, stating that any city head who fails to meet targets will be replaced to allow others to drive progress.

For his part, Eng. Sherif El Sherbini, Minister of Housing, thanked the Prime Minister for convening the meeting, describing it as a reflection of the government’s commitment to keeping the New Urban Communities Authority at the forefront of Egypt’s development efforts. He noted his own experience as a former city authority head, underscoring the state’s focus on empowering young leaders.

El Sherbini explained that cleanliness, maintenance, landscaping, lighting, and visual appeal are key components of any successful new city. He stressed the importance of the city head’s constant presence on the ground to drive performance, maintain direct communication with staff, and ensure clear responsibilities. “Follow-up is the foundation of a city head’s success,” he stated.

The minister reaffirmed his confidence in city heads, describing the meeting as a vote of trust in their role and a renewed commitment to elevating services and improving the image of new cities. City heads expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister, pledging to prioritize the issues highlighted during the meeting in their upcoming work plans.
