Prime Minister Reviews Progress of New Delta Project and Water Resource Optimization Initiatives

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a high-level meeting in New Alamein to review the latest developments in the New Delta Project and to discuss strategies for optimizing water resources to support national agricultural initiatives, Invest-Gate reports.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation; Sherif Al-Sharbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities; Alaa El-Din Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation; and Khaled Ahmed Salah, representing the Future Egypt Sustainable Development Agency.

Madbouly emphasized the government’s commitment to closely monitor agricultural projects, particularly the New Delta Project, aiming to enhance food security, create thousands of job opportunities, and establish productive and industrial communities using advanced agricultural technologies.

He noted the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to strengthen public-private partnerships in agricultural infrastructure, ensuring integrated strategic planning with the Future Egypt Agency to boost agricultural production and processing.

The meeting highlighted ongoing initiatives to conserve and reuse water, including upgrading irrigation canals, reducing water losses, and promoting efficient consumption. Officials also discussed expanding reliance on desalination and groundwater projects, as well as tertiary treatment plants for wastewater reuse in agricultural and industrial activities.

Significant attention was given to the New Delta wastewater treatment plant, one of the largest in the world, which provides additional water resources for agricultural expansion through recycling and improved usage patterns. The Housing Ministry also presented a new guideline to reduce daily per capita water consumption from 250 liters to 150 liters.

The session concluded with updates on integrated land reclamation and agricultural development projects, including the rehabilitation of infrastructure, removal of violations along waterways, and enhanced delivery of water to agricultural zones, reflecting Egypt’s long-term vision for sustainable water management and agricultural growth.
