A public lottery will be held to distribute 7,941 units as part of the first phase of a social housing program in Port Said, according to MP Ahmed Farghaly, Al Mal reported on Sunday.

Of the total number of units, 3,909 are located in the suburbs of Port Said, and 4,032 are located in the Emirates residential project in south Port Said. Units are ready to be delivered to applicants who have paid a down payment of EGP 10,000.

Protests broke out in Port Said last week, with residents claiming that they were being asked to pay up to EGP 48,000 as a down-payment to reserve social housing units, instead of the EGP 10,000 down-payment. The governorate however issued a statement confirming that only EGP 10,000 is required to reserve a unit.
