Russia Resumes Flights to Egypt After Over 2 Years Suspension

The first direct flight between Russia and Egypt in over two years will take off from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport on April 11 and will land at 12:25am on April 12 in Cairo International Airport, Invest-Gate reports.

EgyptAir’s first flight will take off at 9:35am to Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport on April 12, according to Russian carrier Aeroflot.

Aeroflot announced it will operate three flights a week from Moscow to Cairo, on Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday, and flights from Cairo to Moscow on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Russia and Egypt have been negotiating the resumption of flights for months. Russia suspended flights with Cairo in October 2015 when a Russian passenger plane was downed over the Sinai peninsula after taking off from the popular tourist resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, killing all 224 people on board.
