Saudi Arabia has begun to implement new safety and security measures for its government implemented projects, with several implications for contractors, the Saudi Gazette reported last Tuesday.

The measures stipulate the withholding of payments to contractors unless measures are undertaken to abide by safety regulations. Government agencies will also have to verify compliance of contractors and partners with the new measures.

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs is now also required to review its classification system for contractors and classify them according to their adherence to safety standards.
