Schneider Electric, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank Egypt (ADCB), has officially inaugurated a series of sustainable community development projects in Ezbit Abu Shahba, Negila, within the Marsa Matrouh Governorate, Invest-Gate reports.
These projects reflect the joint dedication of the two parties to drive positive change and address pressing challenges like water scarcity, a commitment solidified by the MoU signed ten months prior aimed at improving the livelihoods of rural communities and promoting sustainable development.
The inauguration ceremony gathered high-level representatives from Schneider Electric and ADCB Egypt. Among those present from Schneider Electric’s Northeast and Levant Cluster were Kaoutar Dahmani, CFO; Mirette Wagih, Director of Strategy & Business Development; and Asmaa El-Shiemy, Sustainability Manager. ADCB Egypt’s delegation included Ines Kadri, Chief Communications, ESG and Customer Excellence Officer; and Merham Yousri, Deputy General Manager, Head of ESG and Customer Excellence.
The event also welcomed representatives from Gebal for Sustainability Solutions, the implementing firm, alongside various civil society members across the region.
Focused on addressing the Water, Energy, and Food Nexus in the village, these projects are designed to have a significant impact on the lives of 5,000 local residents, whose primary water and irrigation sources are rainwater and wells. These projects aim to improve access to clean energy while reducing approximately 40 tons of CO₂ emissions each year, thereby advancing environmental conservation efforts. By generating an impressive 35kW of solar energy, these projects also encourage the utilization of renewable energy and bolster ecological and economic development in the region.
Key technological advancements introduced to the community comprise a 320m² climate-controlled greenhouse featuring circular water management, a 150-meter-deep well, a desalination unit, and a fertigation unit, all utilizing solar energy. Additionally, an integrated EcoStruxure monitoring and controlling system is part of the project, designed to optimize the efficiency of energy and water resources.
Sebastien Riez, CEO of Schneider Electric Northeast Africa & Levant, remarked on the project launch, stating, “Our collaboration with ADCB Egypt exemplifies our shared commitment to fostering sustainable development and making a positive impact in local communities.”
Ihab ElSewerky, Managing Director & CEO of ADCB Egypt, stated, “We take pride in the accomplishment of this sustainable development project, which serves as a model for community development. This effort aligns with our community pillar in our ESG strategy and reflects our commitment to Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy 2030.”
These milestone projects underscore the shared commitment of Schneider Electric and ADCB Egypt in combatting climate change, minimizing carbon footprints, and advocating for sustainable solutions in local communities, thereby establishing a more resilient future for all.
