Seven Innovation Hubs to be Established at Universities: Minister

Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) announced the establishment of seven technology innovation hubs at universities, in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR), Invest-Gate reports.

This move comes within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to expand its development programs nationwide and promote innovation in the Egyptian universities, MCIT Minister Amr Talaat said in a ministerial statement.

The government seeks to launch technological innovation hubs, fully equipped in seven universities, as a first phase, in South Valley University in Qena, Aswan University, Menoufia University, Suez Canal University in Ismailia, Minia University, Sohag University and Zagazig University.

Innovation hubs within each university will encompass technological laboratories specializing in software, embedded systems, electronics designing, business incubators, co-working spaces for startups, and specialized training halls in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science and information security.

Prime Minister and Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Development Mostafa Madbouly has witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement technological innovation hubs between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) -representing MCIT- and the Supreme Council of Universities -representing MHESR.
