Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi participated on April 3 in a mini-summit via video conferencing with several African counterparts and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to discuss efforts to fight coronavirus in Africa, Invest-Gate reports.
The summit gathered presidents and leaders such as Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, South African President Cyril Ramaphos, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, and President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo President Felix Tshisekedi, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady declared in a statement
The summit targeted to follow up on the outcome of the March 26 summit and the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic on African states.
Moreover, the summit aimed to identify the best methods to determine the continent’s priorities in order to combat the virus, in coordination with international partners, as well as to consult on the recent G20 summit’s results and to coordinate with its countries on the African continent’s needs, Rady added in a statement.
During the summit, El-Sisi highlighted the importance of continuing efforts with the group’s member states and international partners to effectuate decisions to help Africa deal with the pandemic, especially regarding mobilizing funds and providing international assistance to face the economic, social, and health repercussions of the coronavirus crisis, Rady elaborated.
