SODIC, Egypt’s leading real estate development company, proudly secures the highest certification for green buildings, EDGE Advanced, from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) under the umbrella of the Commercial International Bank (CIB) Egypt’s “Green Bonds and Sector Sustainability” programs, Invest-Gate reports.
This recognition is awarded for their Eastown District New Cairo (EDNC) project, SODIC’s flagship commercial venture in East Cairo, marking EDNC as the first business complex in Egypt to achieve this certification.
The EDGE certification signifies compliance with international standards in measuring energy efficiency, water consumption, and the use of construction materials. Companies that attain this certification gain access to financial benefits such as green bonds, loans, and cash refunds. EDNC qualified for a grant from the International Finance Corporation through the Green Bonds Program due to its alignment with EDGE Advanced standards, promoting environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and resource conservation.
Designed and developed in alignment with sustainability principles, EDNC reduced energy consumption by 40%, water usage by 33%, and embodied energy in construction materials by 22%. These achievements allowed the project to qualify for the EDGE Advanced certification, a significant international recognition in green buildings.
Ayman Ismail, SODIC’s General Manager, expressed the company’s pride in achieving the EDGE Advanced certification for the EDNC project. He emphasized SODIC’s commitment to sustainability as a priority in all its endeavors, reducing carbon emissions across its developments.
Amr El Ganainy, Deputy CEO and Managing Director at CIB, commended SODIC for its leadership in sustainable real estate in Egypt, showcasing its prowess by achieving the highest accreditation for green certifications under the Green Bonds and Sector Sustainability programs.
Sheikh Omar Seela, Regional Director of the International Finance Corporation for North Africa and the Horn of Africa, expressed pleasure in more Egyptian companies pursuing the EDGE certification, foreseeing the positive impact of EDGE-certified buildings on the country by reducing operational costs and enhancing sustainability.
