SODIC Sponsors 1st Special Olympics Pan African Games 2020

Sixth of October Development and Investment Company (SODIC) has been the exclusive real estate sponsor of the first-ever Special Olympics Pan African Games for 2020, Invest-Gate reports

With the participation of 42 African countries, the championship was held under the auspices of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi from January 23 to 31 in Cairo.

The opening ceremony on January 26 witnessed the attendance of high-ranking officials such as Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine El-Kabbag, Regional President and Managing Director of Special Olympics for Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region Ayman Abdel Wahab, and SODIC Managing Director Magued Sherif,  among other officials.

“We are very excited to sponsor the first-ever Pan African Special Olympic Games,” Sherif noted, adding “This sponsorship reiterates our commitment to advocate the inclusion of people of determination in the society by maximizing their participation across different fields.”

The games saw the participation of 800 players competing in football, athletics, basketball, and bocci. The championship witnessed full gender equality for the first time in the history of Special Olympics, with 50-50 participation from both male and female athletes.

Earlier, SODIC has sponsored and supported Eslam Abuali, “a global para-swimmer who won several national and international medals as well as other initiatives in education and slum rehabilitation,” according to the company’s statement
