Tourism Minister Revokes Hotel License Over Coronavirus Layoffs

Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled El Anany issued a decision on April 26 to revoke the license of a leading hotel in Sharm El-Sheikh after it laid off all workers due to the coronavirus pandemic, Invest-Gate reports.

This came as apart of the state’s keenness to protect the labor rights during this crisis after the hotel violated the ministry’s directives, according to a statement by the tourism and antiquities ministry.

Moreover, El Anany also ordered the closure of two restaurants in Greater Cairo for not adhering to the coronavirus health regulations.

Egypt has been setting several conditions for its hotels and restaurants such as operating with a maximum of 50 %of their workforces as well as conducting medical check-ups for staff.

Last week, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that commercial venues including shopping malls will open through the week until 5 pm, Madbouly noted. Restaurants will also be allowed to offer delivery and drive-through services throughout the week, he added.
