UAE to Issue New Fire Code Following Recent Events

UAE plans to  issue a new fire code in early 2017, following the recent accident that took place at an upscale apartment block on the Palm Jumeirah Island on Monday evening calling for more safety measures, reported Reuters.

A fire erupted at an upscale apartment at the Oceana residential compound on Jumairah Palm Island but luckily no casualties were reported. The Dubai Media Office issued reports of a safe and complete evacuation.

Fires are a rather common phenomenon in the emirates due to a lack in fire safety standards on many buildings constructed during the land rush and prior to the issuance of new fire safety regulations. Also, the GCC fire safety market is set to double by 2020 due to the introduction of new standards and the need to keep up with recent developments.
