UK to Support Benban Solar Park with USD 97 mn

The UK’s development finance institution, CDC Group, is to invest USD 97 mn in Aswan’s Benban Solar Park, Invest-Gate reports.

Once completed, the project is expected to be the world’s “largest solar power installation.”

The UK’s investment will support the generation of 400 MW of clean energy, over 20% of the total generating capacity, the UK Embassy in Cairo announced in a statement.

CDC Group is part of an IFC-led consortium providing a USD 653 mn debt to fund a 13 solar power plants project, the Nubian Suns, in the Southern Egyptian city of Aswan.

The Nubian Suns is part of Egypt’s Benban Solar Park, which will feature 32 solar plants producing 1.8 GW.

“I am proud the UK is investing in a project that will provide clean power to over 350,000 residential customers and generate up to 6,000 jobs,” UK Ambassador to Egypt John Casson is quoted in the statement as saying.
