West Cairo’s New October City and October Gardens will shortly have a total of 147,680 social housing units completed, as part of the state’s social housing project, which aims to provide adequate and affordable homes, Invest-Gate reports.
About 38,880 units are under construction in Badr City, while a total of 10,848 apartments are in progress in New Minya, Deputy Executive Director of Mortgage Finance Fund (MFF) Fund Salah Hassan said in a ministerial statement, noting that 11,928 and 38,880 units are being executed in New Assiut and New Aswan, respectively.
As for on-going social housing projects in other governorates, 526 social housing units have been finalized in Sharqia, while 920 others are in the pipeline. Besides, 13,796 apartments are under development in Port Said.
Meanwhile, Marsa Matrouh has witnessed the completion of 920 social housing units, while 360 others are underway. Additionally, a total of 4,008 social housing units were finalized in Fayoum, while another 656 were finished in Damietta, Hassan noted.
In May 2018, the Egyptian parliament ratified the new Social Housing Law to establish the MFF, which is tied to offer low-cost residences in hand-picked areas by the government to those with limited income.
